Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker

Course Overview

Our program covers compliance with working safely up to the defined “safe approach distance” near energised electrical apparatus (inc. electrical powerlines) for non-electrical workers.

It includes work functions that may be performed, such as telecommunications, vegetation control, scaffolding, rigging, painting, and/or any other activity that requires working safely and complying with requirements and/or established procedures near live electrical apparatus by a non-electrical worker.

Included is the preparation of risk assessment control measures that encompass job safety assessment. This unit does not include any work that is or may be performed by other competent operatives within the defined “safe working zone” for instance qualified electricians and allied technicians.

Course Outline:

  •     Confirmation of the principles of electricity, the three phase power system, electric shock and resuscitation
  •     Recognition of aerial voltage systems
  •     Identification of low voltage aerial circuits
  •     Hazard and risk assessment procedure
  •     Applying hazard identification in electrical work
  •     Risk assessment and management (JSAs) Control
  •     Procedures in the event of an incident
  •     The Hierarchy of controls

Course Inclusions:

  • Training will be conducted by one of our experienced trainer / assessors who have industry currency and supported by a strong knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and industry standards.
  • Practical and theoretical activities drive the training experience to ensure that the training is engaging, interesting and relevant.
  • 6-hours of training. Up to 12 trainees per course. A typical course runs from 07:30-2:30

Participants must

Be at least 15 years of age

We supply all equipment necessary for you to undertake training.

For our public courses at our purpose-built training facility trainees must provide:

Appropriate clothing, closed-in footwear.

Certification:

Students who are assessed as competent will receive a Statement of Attainment recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework. This certification is nationally recognised. The Statement is issued by Australian Operator Training (RTO 41351).
